Better Left Between Us

Better Left Between Us

If a sorry could have fixed our relationship, I would have happily stood there and said it again and again. I would have told you that the mistake I made was nothing more than a fluke of time. I am sorry I didn’t come the day before. Sometimes, there is no explanation for certain things, and I understand that.

Things were rough between us. I never needed an explanation for everything you did. Even today, I don’t want to ask, “Why did you do it?” What I wanted was an explanation of “What meant you did this”. And somehow, that was the hardest thing for you to give me.

You say breaking things off was easy, and I understand that maybe it was the best thing you could have done. But what I couldn’t understand was how quickly I was replaced.
What happened so suddenly? Why did it happen?
Those questions kept puzzling me.

I tried to call. I wanted just one answer. If something was wrong, if someone else had become important, you could have told me. I would have rather heard the truth than been left trying to understand what had happened. You didn’t just break the relationship. You shook the very foundation of what I believed love was.

No relationship is perfect from the day it begins. There is laughter, there are fights, there are misunderstandings, and there are conclusions we learn to live with. Those are the things we carry forward from a relationship.

But what happened between us changed everything
The laughter came so easily in the beginning. And then, just two months later, came the darkest hour of the relationship.

I don’t want to go into every detail. Maybe I don’t even need to. But those little things—the flirty hints, the childish laughter you shared with your colleagues—made a difference to me. I thought correcting things would be easy. I thought talking about them would make things better.
Instead, the excuses came easily.

Sometimes, a single hug is enough to make you feel like someone is family.

And if things were not right between us, all you had to do was clarify them. Talk to me. Tell me what was wrong. You didn’t have to cut me off in an instant after everything we had been through, without giving me a reason for what had actually happened.

Back then, when my friends told me that I was too innocent and that I was being used, I thought, What do they know about our relationship?
They didn’t know the things we shared. They didn’t know the thoughts we exchanged. They didn’t know the darkest secrets I knew about you—the things I never told anyone because I thought sharing them would ruin the image I had protected for you. I kept those things to myself. And today, all I am left knowing is that maybe you were simply cooking up a story all along.

Maybe I was used.
Maybe my feelings and emotions meant nothing to you. Maybe all those words you said were words you never truly meant. Maybe that date was just a trap. Maybe you cried in front of me because you knew my heart was soft enough to believe you, and I was innocent enough to see everything differently.

I wasn’t cunning.
I was just genuine.
And perhaps that was my mistake.

But the one thing I know for sure is that you took away something I had always considered beautiful.

I lost faith. Not just in you.I lost faith in love itself.

Today, I don’t know where you are, and I don’t want to know. I don’t want to face you. Some people leave your life, but the things they leave behind stay much longer than they ever did.

Maybe I won’t tell this story perfectly and will never be able to explain every feeling the way it actually happened.

But some days are simply too heavy. Some memories take too long to disappear.

And sometimes, silence is the only answer you have left when every explanation you deserved was never given. Maybe someday you will understand what your actions did to someone who genuinely cared. Until then, I will remain silent. Not because I have nothing to say.

But because I have finally understood that some things are better left between us.
